📖 Oathbringer
By Brandon Sanderson.
Dalinar Kholin, once a brutal warlord, now seeks unity for a fractured kingdom threatened by the return of the Voidbringers. As the storm of war looms, ancient secrets come to light, threatening to undo everything the Knights Radiant are trying to rebuild. Oathbringer continues the epic journey of the Stormlight Archive, weaving battles, betrayals, and deeply personal reckonings into one of the most ambitious fantasy sagas of our time.
Trigger Warnings: PTSD, trauma, suicidal ideation, depression, war, graphic violence, identity fragmentation and dissociation, abuse

- Plot & Pacing: Perfectly paced throughout, with no lulls. Every section added to the story in a meaningful way.

- Writing Style: Polished and masterful. Sanderson’s structure and world-building remain mind-blowing.
- Emotional Impact: Staggering. Full of gasp-worthy twists and emotional resonance. Several “jaw on the floor” moments.
- Continue series/ read more from this author? Obviously.
Probably very expected that this is also a 5 star book. The Stormlight Archive is honestly so incredible—it blows me away. The world-building and plot literally baffle me. How does Brandon Sanderson think up such an enormous, detailed, and layered story and get it onto paper so clearly and accessibly?
Oathbringer is nothing short of epic. There are some darker elements in this third instalment as we get deeper into each character’s backstory and internal battles, but the story is also full of hope. Sanderson has this magical ability to balance weighty, complex themes with moments of emotional clarity and light.
The pacing was phenomenal—there wasn’t a single boring part. I devoured every page. The plot advances in huge ways, but not without taking time to explore the emotional and psychological journeys of its key players. The development of the Bridge Four team was a real highlight. It was brilliant to see their individual voices come through and to learn more about them beyond Kaladin’s shadow.
Adolin continues to be an absolute gem. I love him more with every book. Shallan’s arc, with all its intricacies (and all her selves), was incredible. She’s one of the most uniquely written characters I’ve come across in fantasy.
And the Cosmere connections! I got so excited every time I spotted something from another novel or planet. Oathbringer had the most crossovers I’ve noticed so far, and it was a joy. It’s such a rewarding experience for fans who’ve read widely across Sanderson’s universe.
I’d recommend the Stormlight Archive series to anyone who loves high fantasy and wants to sink their teeth into something massive, immersive, and emotionally rewarding. Of course, you can’t pick up Oathbringer as a standalone, but as the third in the series, it’s an absolute masterpiece.
